Born on January 15th, 1953, NEGRASSO is a proud Houstonian, hailing from the vibrant Third
Ward. Though his early years saw him raised in Port Arthur and Fort Worth, Texas, his journey
eventually circled back to Houston, where he now calls the Heights home.
A self-taught artist, NEGRASSO discovered his deep-seated passion for art in 2001, prompted by a life-threatening health ordeal. Commencing his artistic odyssey with graphite pencils, he gradually incorporated colored pencils and pastels to enrich his creations. Evolving further, he embraced acrylics as his primary medium, complemented by forays into mixed media and collage.
NEGRASSO’S art is an intimate reflection of his experiences, weaving together themes of
music, humor, social consciousness, and nature. With a masterful touch, he skillfully blends a
palette of colors, infusing each piece with emotion and harmony. His work has graced notable spaces, including Frost Brown & Tidd Law offices, The Community Collective, The Ensemble Theatre, and the MFA Citywide African American Art Exhibit at Texas Southern University and the Glassell.
Beyond gallery walls, NEGRASSO’S art has found a cherished place in private collections across Houston, New York, Florida, Oregon, England, Sweden, Jamaica, Grenada, and Grand Cayman.
